Sorata Laguna Chilata > Laguna Glaciar

On the first day of our journey, we depart from La Paz at 9:00 am and embark on a scenic drive through the Cordillera Real. We pass by Lake Titicaca and the town of Achacachi before reaching Warisata, where we are greeted by the majestic snowy peaks of Illampu and Ancohuma. Finally, we arrive in the charming town of Sorata at 2,700 meters above sea level. Upon our arrival, we check into our hotel and in the afternoon, we embark on a trek to the Gruta de San Pedro, an abandoned Inca mine, before returning to Sorata.

The following day, we set out for Laguna Chilata at 4,200 meters above sea level, traversing the high valleys of Sorata and encountering fields of corn, Andean fauna, and stunning landscapes along the way. We reach Laguna Chilata and set up camp for the night.

Day three is an early start as we journey to the Glacier Lagoon at 5,030 meters. We trek through abandoned mines, taking in breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys before arriving at the impressive glacier lagoon. After marveling at the natural beauty, we make our way back to Laguna Chilata for another night of camping.

On our last day, we pack up camp and begin our descent back to Sorata with the help of mules. From Sorata, we catch our return transport to La Paz in the afternoon, concluding our unforgettable adventure in the breathtaking landscapes of Sorata.

About the Tour

Day 1: Explore the stunning landscape of Cordillera Real on your way from La Paz to Sorata. Visit the Gruta de San Pedro and settle in at the hotel in Sorata.

Day 2: Hike to Laguna Chilata at 4,200m and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the high valleys of Sorata. Camp at the lagoon overnight.

Day 3: Embark on an early morning trek to the Glacier Lagoon at 5,030m, with spectacular views of the mountains and high valleys. Return to Laguna Chilata for another night of camping.

Day 4: Descend back to Sorata and return to La Paz in the afternoon. Enjoy the memories of your adventurous journey in the Andes mountains.

Itinerary of the Tour

🌞 Day 1 —

La Paz - Sorata

At 09:00 am we leave La Paz, we pass through the beautiful landscape of the Cordillera Real, passing near Lake Titicaca, and then pass through the town of Achacachi, Warisata from where you can see the imposing snowy Illampu and Ancohuma, thus arriving next to where you can see the beautiful population of Sorata 2,700m, once we reach the town we settle in the Hotel, in the afternoon we make a trekking towards the Gruta de San Pedro an abandoned mine of the Inca Culture and return.

Day 2 ―

Sorata - Laguna Chilata

In the morning we leave with direction to the Laguna Chilata 4,200m passing through the beautiful landscape of the high valleys of Sorata, passing through the fields of corn and other food and the Andean fauna and thus we reach the Chilata lagoon where we camp.

Day 3 ―

Laguna Chilata - Laguna Glaciar - Laguna Chilata

On this very early day we leave for the 5.030m Glacier Lagoon, climbing through abandoned mines, spectacular views of the mountains and the high valleys of the area and thus reach the glacier lagoon, impressive mountain landscape with an immense glacier of the mountain, then return by the same route to the Chilata lagoon where our campsite is installed with a walk of 6 to 7 hours.

Day 4 ―

Laguna Chilata - Sorata - La Paz

After breakfast we begin to descend towards the town of Sorata with mules and then take the return transport from Sorata to La Paz in the afternoon.
