Description

PARINACOTA 6332 m.a.s.l.

The Parinacota (6332 m.a.s.l.) is a volcano with a crater in its summit. From the top you can enjoy the elegant landscapes and see immense volcanic pyramids within the Sajama National Park.

Is located northwest at the department of Oruro, in the Sajama province. The area adjoins with the department of La Paz and the border of Chile, its heights go from 4.000 and 6.542 meters.

You will be able to experience a diversified flora and fauna: The queñuas Woods (trees that grow in the highest altitude in the world), elegant vicuñas, llamas, alpacas, suris, and with some luck andean wild cats, pumas and condor.

Besides all this, there is a geyser chain (boling slopes), place where you’ll can watch boiling water coming out of the ground and termal waters in open air, both product of the volcanic activity underground.

Day 1 ■LA PAZ – SAJAMA VILLAGE (4200 m.a.s.l.)

Departure from the hotel to cross the Altiplano (the high plateau) early in the morning.

On our way we will make a stop in Curahuara de Carangas village, where we will visit the colonial church known as “Capilla Sixtina del Altiplano” (Chapell sixteen of the high plateau). We will arrive at Sajama village around the afternoon.

Night at the hostel.

Day 2 ■SAJAMA VILLAGE – PARINACOTA SUMMIT (6332 m.a.s.l.) – SAJAMA VILLAGE (4200 m.a.s.l.) – LA PAZ (3600 m.a.s.l.)

We will leave Sajama village early in the morning to go to Parinacota’s high camp. The climb will begin from the gap that divides the Payachatas. We will gain height through a zig-zag trail.

The mountain arises as a continuous slope until the summit. The descent will be through the same way or a more direct trail (depending on the conditions) to the base camp where the car will be waiting for us to go back to Sajama village and Return to La Paz city.
