Climbing Sajama 6.542m, is one of the hardest and most incredible experiences in Bolivia.

It is literally the highest mountain in the country. This Climbing-Tour is only reserved for the most courageous and experienced climbers in the world. That is why it requires prior preparation, acclimatization and experience.

The Sajama was sacred mountain of the pre-Inca culture of the Carangas, It is the main attraction of the first National Park in Bolivia that bears his name (1939). In this park of 100.223 hectares (247.653 acres) It is a forest of the tree that grows to greater height in the world, the queñua (of the 3600 to them 5200 m.a.s.l.).

In addition, graves of the Chipaya culture and endemic fauna of the place are: birds, as a Flemish, ducks, seagulls, hen from water and Andean Avocet and Andean camelids, as flames, Alpacas, guanacos and vicuñas.

About the Tour

Day 1: Depart from La Paz to Sajama, observing scenic landscapes and Aymara culture sites. Arrive at Sajama at 4,200m and trek to the 4,700m base camp, where the first night is spent camping.

Day 2: Trek from base camp to high camp at 5,700m after breakfast. The journey takes 4-5 hours, where the second night is spent camping.

Day 3: Depart from high camp at 1:00 am to summit Sajama at 6,542m, lasting 6-7 hours. Enjoy the views from the summit before descending back to high camp. Return to base camp for the third night of camping.

Day 4: Visit hot springs after breakfast and return to Sajama town for the journey back to La Paz.

Itinerary of the Tour

🌞 Day 1 —

La Paz - Sajama - Base Camp

At 08:00 am we leave La Paz towards Sajama through beautiful landscapes of the plateau watching the rivers, canyons of the area, Chullpares (cemeteries) of the Aymara Manor Culture, camelid fauna and flora, and thus in 4 hours of travel We arrived at Sajama 4,200m, after some preparations we started the trekking with 3-hour mules to the 4.700m base camp where we rested the first night in camping.

Day 2 ―

Base Camp - High Campo 5.700m

To hrs. 09:00 a.m.

After breakfast we prepare the equipment for the porters and then we start walking for 4 or 5 hours at 5,700 m high field. where we will spend the second night in camping.

Day 3 ―

Sajama Summit 5.542m - Base Camp

After breakfast hours. 01:00 a.m.

We leave the high camp towards the summit of Sajama 6,542 m Ascension that lasts from 6 to 7 hours, after enjoying the beautiful landscape from the summit we continue with the descent to high camp, after lunch we continue towards base camp where we rest the third camping night.

Day 4 ―

Sajama - La Paz

After breakfast visit the hot springs and return to the town of Sajama where transport awaits for the return to the city of La Paz.
