Join us on a day trip to Copacabana, a picturesque town located 153 kilometers from La Paz. Our tour offers two exciting options to explore the rich history and culture of the region. Our Copacabana Tour offers a unique experience, with two options to choose from.
Option 1: Copacabana & Floating Islands
Embark on a journey to explore the majestic Lake Titicaca and its floating islands. Admire the traditional totora reed islands, home to the Uros people, and learn about their unique way of life. Take a boat tour and enjoy the breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
Option 2: Copacabana & Sun Island
Visit the mystical Sun Island, believed to be the birthplace of the Inca civilization. Explore the ancient ruins, including the Inca Stairs, Fountain of Eternal Youth, and Temple of the Sun. Enjoy stunning views of Lake Titicaca and take in the rich history and culture of the region.
The places to visit on Copacabana are:
1.- ISLA DEL SOL
The Isla del Sol, or Island of the Sun, is a mystical and enchanting island located on Lake Titicaca and is believed to be the birthplace of the Inca civilization.
The island is home to various archaeological sites dating back to the Inca era, such as the Inca Stairs, the Fountain of Eternal Youth, and the Temple of the Sun (Pilkokaina).
Visitors can explore these ruins and learn about the island’s rich history and significance in Inca culture.
2.- CALVARIO DE COPACABANA
The Calvario hill of Copacabana is a sacred place for locals and visitors alike. Located northeast of the town of Copacabana, the hill rises approximately 120 meters and offers stunning views of the town and Lake Titicaca.
The climb up the hill is steep and rocky, with stations commemorating Jesus’ steps towards Golgotha along the way. During the pre-Columbian era, the hill was considered a sacred site, known as a WACA, and it continues to hold spiritual significance for many people who visit and make offerings at its summit.
3.- BASILICA DE COPACABANA
The Basilica of Our Lady of Copacabana is a stunning Moorish-style building situated in the charming town of Copacabana.
Within the basilica, visitors can admire the statue of the Virgin of Copacabana, considered the patron saint of Bolivia.
The basilica’s architectural beauty and religious significance make it a must-see attraction for tourists and pilgrims alike.
4.- FLOATING ISLANDS
The Floating Islands of Copacabana are a unique and fascinating attraction on Lake Titicaca.
These islands are constructed by local communities using totora reeds, which grow abundantly in the lake.
The reeds are bundled together to create floating platforms that serve as homes, schools, and shops for the island residents.
Visitors can take boat tours to explore the islands, learn about the traditional ways of life of the Uros people who inhabit them, and even purchase handicrafts made from totora reeds.
