A marvelous trip to Sajama and continue to Salar de Uyuni

Sajama + Salar de Uyuni, is a great combination for adventurous travelers, who want to see a lot of scenery, we start in the natural wonder and natural park Sajama. There we will enjoy the hot springs plus a walk around the place, getting to know the culture of the place.

Then we move to the Salar de Uyuni discovering natural wonders such as the green lagoon, the red lagoon, the white lagoon, in addition to the Incahuasi island, the island of Coipasa.

About the Tour

Day 1: La Paz to Sajama Village. Drive to the Altiplano, seeing local villages and herding animals. Visit the church Carahuara de Carangas and hot springs. Stay in the village of Tomarapi.

Day 2: Sajama Village to Jirira. Drive to Jirira. passing close to the Chile/Bolivian border. Stop at Lake Macaya, ancient Inca Tombs, and Salar de Coipsa. Stay in Hotel de Sal 2

Day 3: Jirira to Uyuni Salt Flats. Visit the Salar de Uyuni, one of the world’s largest salt flats. Stop at Coquesa for a short walk and visit mummified remains. Explore Isla Incahuasi and take photos of this natural wonders, stay in San Juan.

Day 4: San Juan to Huallajara. Drive through valleys with lakes and rock formations. Stop at Laguna Colorada and see flamingos and other wildlife. Stay in Hotel Altitud – Huallajara Private Acomodation.

Day 5: Huallajara to Uyuni. Visit Sol de Manana and Polques hot springs. Stop at Laguna verde and Laguna Blanca. Return to Uyuni (3660m).

This tour takes you through the Bolivian highlands, exploring salt flats, lakes, and rock formations, as well as visiting ancient ruins and experiencing local culture. The tour includes 5 nights of accommodation and all meals except for dinner on Day 1.

Itinerary of the Tour

─ Day 1 ─

La Paz (3600m) – Tomarapi (4220m) – Sajama village (4300m)

We drive from La Paz through El Alto and onto the Altiplano (4000m), which is a vast undulating and dry landscape.

We will see brightly dresses locals in this region herding their flocks of llamas and alpacas.

Along the way we will stop at church Carahuara de Carangas.

One hour before the village we get our first views of Sajama standing like the lonely mountain in The Hobbit.

We will stay the night in the village of Tomarapi, taking time out to visit the hot springs and Laguna Huaña Khota.

4 -5 hours driving (LD) Hotel Tomarapi 3*

Day 2 ―

Sajama Village (4300m) – Coipasa Salt Flat - Jirira (3680m)

We make an early start for the beautiful drive to Jirira.

We pass close to the Chile/Bolivian border, making stops along the way to visit Lake Macaya, ancient Inca Tombs, We will cross the Salar de Coipsa, one of the most beautiful places in the area.

Finally we stop at Salinas Gracia de Mendoza for Gasoline before reaching Jirira.

7 – 9 hours driving (BLD) Hotel de Sal 2*

Day 3 ―

Jirira (3680m) - Uyuni Salt Flats (3653m) - Isla de Incahuasi – San Juan (3720m)

Today is perhaps the most spectacular.

We visit the salt flats of the Salar, first stopping at Coquesa where we make a short walk to some caves and visit some mummified remains.

Next is Isla Incahuasi in the middle of the salt flats where you can explore the island by foot.

We will stop for lunch here, so there’s plenty of time to take photos of this natural wonder.

Then we will go straight to San Juan, where we will spend the night, where we spend the night.

5 – 6 hours driving (BLD) Hotel Lipez

Day 4 ―

San Juan (3720m) – Laguna Colorada (4287m) – Huallajara (4300m)

On the road again, we pass lots of lakes with different shimmering hues and we see a variety of wild life including elegant and brightly colored Flamingos Cañapa Lagoon, Hedionda Lagoon etc .

Through out the valleys of this arid area are vast rock formations with colors of reds, yellows and whites, exposed by the massive up thrust of the Andes over millions of years Arbol de Piedra.

Following more dusty roads we enter the National park called Eduardo Avaroa where we stop off at Laguna Colorada.

6 – 7 hours driving (BLD) Hotel Altitud – Huallajara Private Acomodation.

Day 5 ―

Huallajara (4300m) – Laguna Verde (4400m)– Uyuni (3660m)

Our first stop is Sol de Manana before moving on to Polques hot springs.

Near the end of the road we visit Laguna verde and Laguna Blanca, stunningly colored lakes in this sepia landscape.

Then we make our way back to Uyuni.
